Building Work

We are getting a new roof!

Building work will start on 20th July to replace the hall roof. This has been made possible by a generous grant from Test Valley Borough Council and a contribution from Lockerley Parish Council. The work will take place during the school holidays and should be complete by the end of August.

Why is it needed?

Although the existing roof appears to be in good condition, it is constructed from asbestos cement tiles. These are perfectly safe if left undisturbed but become an issue if repairs are needed. They also prevent us from making improvements to the halls energy efficiency, we cannot install under-roof insulation or solar panels without disturbing the asbestos tiles. Ultimately the new roof will mean a warmer hall and reduced electricity use.

Will the hall still be in use while work is in progress?

Yes, the hall will continue to operate throughout the works. The replacement will be done a section at a time and although the roof tiles will be replaced, the interior ceilings will remain in place. The old asbestos tiles will be removed by a firm specialising in asbestos removal so that there is no health risk to hall users.

What is the impact on Hall Users?

There will be scaffolding going up around the hall itself and skips will be positioned in the car park. This will restrict the parking space available around the hall but parking will still be available on Butts Green opposite the hall. Workmen will be operating on site and hall users must respect the workforce and follow any instructions given. Some noise will be inevitable.
